Questions.
How much does Stripe charge per transaction?
On its US pricing page Stripe lists 2.9% + 30 cents for domestic cards, 1.5% more for international cards and 1% more if currency conversion is needed. Stripe Billing adds 0.7% of billing volume for subscriptions.
What is a merchant of record?
A company that sells your product on your behalf and handles sales tax, VAT and chargebacks. Paddle, Lemon Squeezy, Polar, Dodo Payments and Creem work this way, which is part of why their rates are higher than Stripe's.
Why is the fee higher on cheap products?
Every provider adds a fixed fee per sale. On a $5 sale, 50 cents is 10% before the percentage fee, so low prices lose a much larger share.
What does this calculator leave out?
Payout fees, currency conversion, refunds, disputes, and sales tax tools you add yourself, because they depend on your setup. High-volume and custom plans are also left out.
Which provider is cheapest?
It depends on your price, your share of international buyers and whether you need tax handled for you. Enter your own numbers: the order changes with them.
